Online dating is pretty much a necessity for singles looking for partners these days. Everyone and their brother has a profile on Tinder, Match, Bumble, Hinge, Grindr, eHarmony, OK Cupid, Plenty of Fish or any other of the dozens of apps available out there (check out CNET's list of top dating sites for 2024!). So how do you stand out amongst the millions of others profiles? GOOD PHOTOGRAPHY! I cannot tell you how many terrible profiles I’ve seen out there. Nobody needs to see another selfie of you in the bathroom mirror. Trust me on this.
My aim for an online dating photo session is to show off the real you. We’ll start off with an initial phone/zoom call and get to know each other. I want to hear about your likes/dislikes, hobbies, musical tastes, favorite places in the city to hang out in, favorite restaurants, anything to help me get as rounded a look into you as possible. I want you to have a set of images you feel confident with, so let’s talk about wardrobe and features you like and want to highlight, or other features you may want to down play. I want it to look like we didn’t do a bunch of images one day only, so let’s mix it up with several locations and outfits to show off a variety of looks and sides of you. Let’s even go grab a drink or coffee and hang, and I’ll get some shots with my iPhone, so it even looks like a friend took them (though, I promise mine will look better).
If you are tired of not matching with those you hope to, or are tired of text conversations that just ghost you, this is for you. If your goal is to meet your person, then let’s do this. Let’s show your person who you really are and snag them already!
WHY DO I NEED PROFESSIONAL ONLINE DATING PORTRAITS WHEN I HAVE MY IPHONE OR FRIENDS TO TAKE PHOTOS OF ME?
Is your current profile working for you? If so, then you don’t need me. However, if you’re feeling stuck, like you’re only attracting those you’re not interested in, then it’s time to up your game. The difference between your friends photographing you (or you taking selfies) and having a professional photograph you is, I will be hyper aware of lighting, backgrounds and capturing you at your best. You of course can still use shots your friend took, or your favorite selfie, but having a group of really great photographs of yourself will really let you stand out from the crowd. Remember, people today are very visual, and are inundated with many images. The more and better portraits you have of yourself for your dating profile, the better chance you have of finding the one person you’re looking for.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
We will talk about this in our initial chat, but I’ll want you to bring along at least 5 outfit options. It’s always a good idea to think of layers, so it’s easy to change a look with minimal effort. Most important, I want you to feel confident in whatever you’re wearing. If you’re a jeans & t-shirt guy, I’m not going to want you to wear a tux, however it might be nice to figure out some sort of outfit that pushes your limits.
WHERE WILL WE TAKE THE PHOTOGRAPHS?
We’ll talk this through in our initial conversation. I’d love to take your likes and interests into consideration and work those into our locations. Are you a hiker who loves live music? If so, maybe we’ll work locations in like a walking along the Wildwood Trail then get the Roseland Theater in the background. Maybe you’re a bookworm and coffee lover? Let’s hang in the Pearl and work Powells and Stumptown into the mix. Maybe we just go for a feel rather than a specific place, like hit up the industrial areas, or walk next to the Willamette and get the city and bridges into the scenery. Got a dog? Let’s work them into some photos. There’s no shortage of amazing places to shoot in Portland.
BUT I DON’T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW I DID THIS…
I get it. And it’s no one else’s business but your own. I completely respect your privacy and will not show your images, unless you give me permission to do so (which I received to be able to use the images you see on this page).
I HATE GETTING MY PHOTO TAKEN, WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO THIS?
You’re not alone, most people do not love the idea of getting their portraits taken. But having good visual representation of yourself is pretty much mandatory these days. I used to make a living photographing grooms who HATED and I mean HATED getting their photo taken. These poor guys would get dragged to engagement sessions to frolic on the beach with dread in their eyes. By the end of our sessions, 9 out of 10 times the grooms would come up to me and say “that wasn’t bad at all, I can’t wait for you to photograph us on our wedding day”. We are going to have time to hang out, get to know each other, make you comfortable. By the end of it, you’ll feel like a super model.
HOW MANY IMAGES WILL I GET FROM THIS PHOTO SESSION?
Within a week of the photo shoot, I’ll send you a link to an online gallery, that will have up to 100+ images. These images will all be color corrected and professionally processed, meaning I do very light retouching to make sure you look your best but still look natural. If you would like some images to have more retouching, let me know. I aim for natural enhancements, like making sure your skin looks great, but not plastic. I’m happy to accommodate additional requests, but remember these should show the real you. You will be able to download your digital files directly through your online gallery.
